Joanna Simpson Yoga

Yoga classes and personal tuition in Buckinghamshire and Berkshire

Classes & Styles

Joanna’s classes and private tuition align students in their physical body. Often misalignments in the body and mental stress lead to tension, discomfort and pain. Through proper alignment learn how you can achieve strength, flexibility and integrity in your body.

Joanna offers a complete practice with asana (postures), pranayama (breath), meditation and life-affirming yoga philosophy to anchor your heart and mind. Using breath, relaxation postures, and meditation techniques learn how to balance your nervous system, and calm the emotions and mind for greater ease inside and out. Take the wisdom you have gained on the mat into your daily life to improve your health and well-being and bring an overall sense of vitality on all levels.

Anusara/ Hatha Yoga

A dynamic hatha yoga practice that always begins with a centering and breath awareness. It is a light-hearted but a well-informed practice and is known for its unique key principles of alignment and focus on anatomy. A theme may be introduced to inspire the practice and then woven into the physical instructions throughout the class. All classes include a focus on alignment to maximise the flow of energy in your body, and empower you to learn and gain greater stability, space and ease in every pose.

Yin Yoga

Yin is a slow-paced style of yoga with postures that are held for longer periods of time (typically three to five minutes or longer) in order to apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body – tendons, fascia and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Yin is more meditative approach to yoga and aims to cultivate an awareness of inner silence.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is a type of yoga known for its relaxing, calming and healing effect and is considered an ideal balance to hectic and stressful modern lifestyles. All classes are slow paced, with a whole sequence using as few as five or six postures which are held for long periods of time. Props are also used in order to allow the body to be in the most comfortable, supported position possible.

Vinyasa Flow

Vinyasa Flow is usually a more challenging class with more seamless and dynamic transitions where we move the body and breath together using sun salutations and “vinyasa” (plank, chataranga (transition), updog – downward facing dog series) to connect the postures.

Yoga In The Workplace

As more employees are being required to work longer hours, more companies are trying to make the workplace a friendlier, healthier place to be by providing onsite amenities, such as yoga classes. Having mind-body programs like yoga on company grounds can help employees improve their productivity and mental clarity while reducing the number of their sick days:

  • Yoga in the workplace offers a convenient way for employees to have a balanced life, and to get a yoga practice in without having to leave the premises.
  • Yoga in the workplace has the ability to help you de-stress. Employees that are relaxed and productive are vital to a thriving workplace.
  • Yoga in the workplace allows your employees to meet and interact in a very casual way which can be fun, and that can help with developing and strengthening work relationships.

Testimonials

Joanna’s classes are vibrant, enjoyable and well structured with varied and interesting themes. She covers the physical, spiritual and philosophical aspects of yoga, and makes her classes challenging and yet suitable for all levels.

Her authentic style is clear and pragmatic with great attention to detail. The energy and enthusiasm she brings always leaves you feeling uplifted and rejuvenated.

As a yoga instructor myself I find her teaching to be both inspiring and demonstrative of her extensive knowledge of various yoga traditions and her dedication to continuous learning.

Class Attendee

Joanna is the most wonderful yoga teacher. She inspired me to go from being an occasional yoga student, to yoga being a big part of my life. She took me from beginner level competence to enjoying the mental and physical challenge of more advanced yoga – with no pressure and lots of fun and friendship into the bargain. She is a lovely person who cares very much for her students – I would recommend her to anyone at any level of yoga. I love her to bits. Be prepared to book early to be in her classes!

Denise Jones

Class Attendee

The session was exactly what I requested – Joanna addressed all my specific issues as well as giving me great foundational instruction. Exactly what I needed; and wanted. Now I feel that I can do my Vinyasa with confidence and I am getting so very much more out of my practice; even my Warrior I. I have discovered space in my back below my ribcage – which before the lesson with Joanna I never knew existed – and I have been putting your instruction to full use since our lesson. I have already recommended you to my friends and look forward to a follow up session when I have moved forward in my own practice.
